Construction Process

Client projects typically take six to 18 months from design approval to completion, depending on the size, location, weather, and overall complexity. Our project management is as meticulous as our craftsmanship, and we will do everything we can to make the experience an enjoyable one. To get things started, we’ll meet to discuss your design ideas, building methods, and budget in detail.

Our initial concepts are based on your ideas and the inspiration we draw from your property. We feel it’s important that the structure complement the surrounding landscape. Our architects and designers turn sketches into extremely detailed 3D modeling that allows you to fully visualize what the finished space will look like. We encourage clients to take their time during the design process. Changes made at this stage are much less costly than those made during construction.

Once the construction contract has been signed, we’ll prepare a preliminary schedule. Most of the timber framing work is done in our shop, where we have greater control and can trouble-shoot issues in advance. When the layout, cutting, pre-assembly, sanding, finishing, and staging are complete to our satisfaction, we know we’ll have a successful field-raising.

Your Client Portal

Keeping a construction project on schedule requires excellent communication and timely decision-making. HBJL will provide frequent project updates via your personal client portal. The portal lets you manage paperwork and everything else connected to the project in one place, with convenient access to the schedule, renderings, progress photos, and selections for your approval.
