King Post Barn

The couple this barn was designed for needed a barn big enough to house the vehicles of visitors to the many summer parties and charity events they host as well as a place to store summer furniture in the off-season and treasured pieces of an antique collection that had outgrown their living space.

This 40 by 60 foot barn structure can store up to 10 cars with plenty of room to spare. We used a clear span king post truss system to create a totally open interior space with lots of potential uses. A richly-colored mahogany door trimmed with Douglas fir sheathing provides a striking contrast with the traditional stain of the exterior. As part of this custom barn design, we also constructed a timber frame chicken coop for the prized egg laying hens the couple owned.
