This large hand hewn timber frame barn, built in the mid-1800s by a prominent Southern Maine farmer, was in need of significant repairs and renovation to stabilize the structure and make it functional for its new owners. The timber frame was still in remarkably good shape but the structure needed a foundation and a waterproof exterior. After raising the barn on steel I-beams we excavated and poured a new foundation then lowered the barn back into place onto the new foundation.

The five bay long by three bay wide timber frame was enclosed with a new roof, windows, siding, garage doors and two custom barn doors on the gable ends. The original exterior crown molding profile was reproduced using weather resistant wood to stand up to the harsh Maine weather and retain the beauty of the original design. This renovated historic barn frame is now functional for today’s modern family yet evokes a sense of nostalgia as you enter the building and admire the old timbers.
