Master builder John A. Libby began his business over four decades ago restoring vintage timber frame barns. As his company expanded, John combined the artisan craftsmanship he learned through barn restoration with modern design and construction technologies. A founding member of the Timber Framers’ Guild, John is one of the most respected custom builders in New England. Each client receives his personal attention, and John is always readily available to address questions and concerns, even long after projects have been completed.

Lee’s extensive experience in the field, at the workbench and in the office, makes him the go-to person for all things construction. His wide-ranging technical building knowledge provides meaningful insight during the design process, pre-construction planning and project management. With excellent communication and a sense of humor, Lee develops strong client and vendor relationships which is reflected in an enjoyable building experience for all.

Peter has always believed the practice of architecture is the melding of art and science in the service of community.  With degrees in both the fine arts and architecture, he has a foot planted in both worlds and you are as likely to find him at a gallery opening as a seminar on advancements in construction technology.  His professional experience is deep and wide, encompassing many building types and scales from state courthouses to remote cabin retreats.    He maintains a passion for residential design, a common thread throughout his career, having designed many homes across the state of Maine.   

Peter is on the AIA Maine Chapter Board of Directors and has served as visiting critic for design programs at the University of Maine Augusta and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Cindy still appreciates the aroma of fresh cut timbers when arriving for work each day.  Her early career in commercial banking and then running her own businesses were the provided the perfect background for managing the company’s accounting functions, contract preparation, marketing, human resources and all other general business activities.  She is mostly likely the first point of contact when you e-mail, visit or call the company.

If you ask Jamie what he loves about the company he will answer with an emphatic….”Everything!” Jamie has been with Houses and Barns by John Libby over 10 years and has his roots in artisan workmanship. Jamie works closely with John Libby, Lee Proscia and Peter Truslow and is often the client site liaison. He ensures that the job gets done efficiently and usually with his trademark smile.

 

Mike Shipley | Site Supervisor

Mike has been with us for several years learning the carpentry trade following a career as a commercial pilot.  Mike is a talented project manager, skilled carpenter, timber framer and knows how to keep the momentum going while delivering the quality that clients expect. His ‘can do’ upbeat approach toward everything makes him a favorite with clients and co-workers alike.

Jeff joined us in 2014 with many years of skilled carpentry experience.  He has enthusiastically taken opportunities to expand his skills including learning timber framing, managing job sites and crews and working in our finish shop.  His positive attitude, skill and work ethic perfectly complement the superb team at Houses and Barns by John Libby.  When not at work Jeff embraces all things outdoors.

 

Rob Grygiel | Timber Framer

Rob began working for the company as an apprentice in 2017 after studying timber frame carpentry at Kennebec Valley Community College. While a student at KVCC, Rob gained a solid foundation in the craft of timber framing, learning everything from hand chiseling and joinery techniques to architectual engineering and computer-assisted drafting. Rob is thrilled to now be building beautiful timber frame structures.

Seeking more creative projects, Jimmy joined our company in 2017 with 15 years of skilled carpentry experience.  He has embraced the opportunity to cut and raise timber frames and says that for the first time in years he absolutely loves coming to work.  The welcoming atmosphere, team camaraderie, and quality projects all contribute to his job satisfaction.

After 25 years with our company Peter semi-retired to his new farm and provides timber frame consultation services to our team.  With his great respect for the timber frame craft,  extensive experience and love for a challenge our team has learned from the best and enjoy working with him on interesting projects.
