Barn Raising in Yarmouth

Our Architect’s rendering of the new barn next to the existing home
With a growing family, it became obvious the owner’s small two car garage no longer met their space needs. Our Architect designed a new timber frame barn with three bays for vehicles and a side shed for equipment and gear storage. The barn style of the garage creates volume flexibility on the interior with additional space in the loft.

First bent being placed on the foundation
Rather than build a traditional red or white barn, we opted to clad the barn exterior in weathered black stained Accoya barn boards which visually ties into the dark windows of the large white house. The contemporary barn exterior with its simple geometry, trim and black finishes contrasts with the inviting warm traditional timber frame interior vibe. Check out this video about our barn raising process.
To fit the barn on the site we had to temporarily relocate terrace stones which will be reconfigured on the back side of the garage – creating a nice private outdoor oasis between the house and barn. It also allows the barn to serve as expanded entertainment space by raising the rear aluminum and glass door and parking vehicles outside.
