Well, well, well…October 21, 2009
In building a timber frame home or barn, the unexpected can occur. But most problems can be solved with a little ingenuity. One such problem that we’ve encountered here at Houses & Barns is a…well….a well once drilled that just didn’t want to produce any water. A well with no water, is like a desert with no sand. What happens in such a case as this? We attempt a method called Hydraulic Fracturing or ‘fracking’. This method is used to increase the rate which fluids, such as oil, gas or in this case, water, flows. This procedure involves filling the well at varying levels as it’s drilled by hauling in fresh water with a tank truck. Several thousands of psi pressure is then applied from an air compressor to force water into any openings in the ledge to improve flow. In most cases as with ours, fracking works. And it’s fun to say! |
